Mission: S01E04 The Outpost Has Eyes
Location: USS Musashi | Deck 6 | Briefing Room

Captain Donatella Figueroa and her formerly Chief Communications Officer, Lieutenant K'Niras Sh'howul strode down the corridor of the USS Musashi's sixth deck after exiting the turbolift. They walked steadily down the corridors, making a sharp turn at the end and the junction and proceeded down yet another corridor for a few strides before coming to a stop outside the door marked Briefing Room. It was where all the important meetings took place and it was where several members of the crew were waiting for them, undoubtedly nervous and seated about the table. The Captain was happy to be dressed in a more fitted uniform. The green maternity wrap was rather odd; however perhaps no more peculiar then the canary yellow uniform she presently was wearing. Likewise, K'Niras was in an equally vibrant uniform albeit more of a cardinal red.

"I don't know about you, Number One, but I am starting to question Starfleet fashion designers," commented Fig as she took a deep breath outside of the Briefing Room. "You look like a cardinal and I look like one of the finches that used to come to my grandmother's garden, that or a canary. I'm telling you ever since the Federation began diplomatic relations with the Bolians, everything has become a fashion faux pas. Look at us... vibrant colors, women in skirts, and do not get me started on the beehive hair," she said shaking her head, which was not in a beehive.

K'Niras laughed. "It does sort of resemble a beehive... I can't say that I'm anymore fond of these uniforms than I was of the previous ones. They are all a little uncomfortable and not made for Caitians..." he explained as he pulled at his collar. "Are we ready for this briefing?" He was still a little surprised by recent events. He had gone from a position of nothing to being the first officer. He had, of course, taken all the command training courses back at the academy, but as this mission had proved, time and time again, all of the schooling in the world couldn't have prepared him for the reality of being in space.

"As ready as I can be," she confessed. "I don't think any of them will be all that fond of these new uniforms. I hate to break that news to them. You know, if you find the trousers uncomfortable, Number One, you could always wear the skirt. It's the twenty-third century after all," added Fig teasingly.

"Wow really?" he asked her in a joking fashion, sarcasm dripping. "Now I'm going to wear one, just to spite you," he teased with a little grin.

Fig shook his head. "I'd love to see that," she said as they proceeded towards the doors that whooshed open. Fig entered first with her Caitian First Officer following right behind her. The others had already been in the room waiting for Captain Figueroa and undoubtedly for Commander Samuels who would not be joining them which was part of the briefing news. Captain Figueroa gestured for K'Niras to take the seat that usually was claimed by Commander Samuels as Fig herself took the usual spot of the Captain.

K'Niras sat, feeling eyes on him, where he was instructed to sit and sat both of his paws on the table. Normally, he would carry a PADD to these meetings, but today had been way too busy for him to even think to grab one. Now, he was feeling a little naked without it. He pulled at the collar of the new red uniform he was wearing with one clawed finger.

"Good morning, crew," said the Captain politely. "There have been some changes that we need to address and start to clear the air a bit. First things first, you all know K'Niras. The Lieutenant is no longer Chief Communications Officer and Second Officer. You are looking at your new First Officer and Chief Engineer," announced Fig.

K'Niras still felt a little awkward, but he was determined that he would get over that feeling quickly. He had never really been in charge of people, although he had filed plenty of reports. Since they didn't have a replacement Second Officer, for the time being he would be taking on both duties. He nodded politely.

Shras just sat smiling. He knew that the CO made a fine choice in K'Niras. "Congratulations," he said

K'Niras smiled, just showing his front teeth. "Thank you. I am hoping that I will serve you all with distinction."

Captain Figueroa smiled. "Men," she scoffed playfully. "You have such vast vocabulary I feel so pressed time," she added teasing the two officers. "A congratulations on a promotion from an Andorian is pretty high praise, Lieutenant," she said to K'Niras. The Captain was about to get things underway when the doorway whooshed open and the young sandy blond haired male in the new medical blues with a sleeveless variant entered.

"I'm glad to see you got the memorandum," the Captain said gesturing the man to have a seat next to the nurse. "I don't believe you two have had the pleasure yet. Nurse Vinia, Doctor Egan Calix of Risa. Doctor, Nurse Aeryn Vinia Head Nurse of the USS Musashi and the woman who's been shouldering the Medical Department for far too long," said Fig making the introductions.

Doctor Calix was still not pleased with how he came to be in Starfleet and serving aboard his captor's starship, but as far as hostage situations went, he had been in far worse. She was not pointing a phaser at his head telling him to operate. She was not starving him or keeping him in a holding cell. He had free reign of a medium sized starship and the Sickbay was adequate. He took note of the other woman... the nurse she had introduced him to just a moment ago. She had hair as blue and vibrant as the ocean bays of his home world. He took a seat next to her and extended his hand to shake hers. "You may call me Egan, my dear Nurse. That hair looks remarkable on you," he said making light of his hostage situation.

Shaking his hand was a little aukward from this angle, but they managed. Her hands came to her chest in a traditional greeting and she bowed slightly to him. That hid Aeryns blush only slightly. "Thank you Egan, Im quite fond of the color."

Egan smiled at the woman. "You're welcome" he replied. I wonder how I'd look with that shade of blue he pondered.

The slight shrieking of the intercom nearly had Fig jumping out of her seat. She was still a little jittery from everything. The Captain leaned forward and pressed the control to answer. "Go ahead," she answered swiftly.

"Captain, your new officer has arrived. Should I send her to the Briefing Room?" came the voice of Cornet Jakku, the young Trill who was serving aboard for a cultural experience.

Wonderful, thought Fig with a smile worn across her face. "Yes, Mister Jakku. Please escort her to the Briefing Room," she added.

Several brief moments passed and Captain Figueroa allowed the crew to chatter about themselves as she grabbed a stack of data tablets and had her First Officer hand them out to everyone in attendance.

K'Niras chuckled when he was handed the stack. "So, I get to pass out papers to the class now?" He wasn't in any way insulted or upset. He seemed to be teasing and trying to make a joke. He handed the tablets out to everyone seated at the table with a grin on his face.

The doors whooshed open and Fig turned in her chair. "Ah, there's the lieutenant I've been looking forward to meeting. Lieutenant Kate Jackson, welcome aboard the USS Musashi. Please, come in and have a seat. We haven't really started anything yet," she said, handing a data tablet over to the woman.

Kate looked around the room as she accepted the tablet. She walked to the table and took a seat. She looked around to everyone present, as she was smiling. "Hello," she finally said. "Nice to meet you all." She looked to the tablet she was given. "Thank you, Captain." She served on the Peacemaker before, but she had never served with a Caitian or an Andorian. She then coughed a bit. "Ehm, Captain, if time permits, I would like to be introduced to these men and women." She had read a lot about Caitians and Andorians, but she was eager to learn more about them.

The Captain nodded. "We have the time, Lieutenant. You will all be working closely with one another."

She went around the table gesturing towards the young Ensign. "The one in the corner over there is Ensign Ethan O'Donoghue, Helmsman... mind the hangover, he was a little too excited we were at a space station and partied a little too heavily. The Captain then gestured to the Risan male in the medical uniform with short sleeves.

"Doctor Egan Calix, Chief Medical Officer," he said kindly enough. He may not have been thrilled to be aboard, but he was not about to sour anyone else's experience. The Doctor flashed a look at the Andorian.

"Lieutenant Shras th'Zarath. Former navigator, turned Chief of Security." He nodded to everyone in the room

"Lieutenant K'Niras Sh'howul. Former Communication Officer and Second Officer, turned Chief Engineer and First Officer." The tri-colored Caitian grinned, just showing his front teeth. "Welcome aboard, Lieutenant Jackson."

"Aeryn Vinia, Nurse Practitioner. I have many specialties but youll find me in sickbay." Inclining her head again she smiled brightly.

"Save the best for last" teased the Captain. "Captain Donatella Figueroa, Commanding Officer. I hope your time aboard the USS Musashi is kind to you. I have commanded this starship through thick and thin. It's seen many of the best and brightest Starfleet has to offer. It is a solid starship, well armed, and has proven herself through war with the Klingons" said the Captain, commenting on her starship, but perhaps herself as well.

The Captain took a deep breath. "Alright, now that introductions are out of the way...let's get into the heart of the matter" stated the Captain as she readied herself for the actual mission briefing.
