=/\= Observation Lounge =/\=
Seleya walked towards the observation lounge with her medical kit in hand. She had received the call minutes ago about a medical emergency. She briefly wondered what someone would be doing there at this hour but she was a doctor and she had to act.
She'd grabbed the first med kit she could and had hightailed it towards the lounge.
It was funny she had thought, just an hour ago, about heading there. Looking at the stars always seemed to calm her. Not for the first time that night her mind with to Michael. She had done a lot of thinking about him.
She had made up her mind in that respect to act. She had searched her mind and heart and had discovered that she had been in love with Essex for a long time. Things never quite worked out for them but she was determined to make them work out now.
As she reached the observation lounge she hit the code to enter. Rushing in she saw only darkness.
She had just been about to call for lights when a voice spoke behind her. "Hello doctor."
Whirling around she called for lights and gasped. There was Ensign Higgins with a phaser. It was not set to stun. She could see that right away.
Michael bolted off the turbo lift. He was just a few feet away when he heard voices from the lounge. He recognized Seleya's right away and it took him a moment to recognize Higgins.
His heart hammered in his chest. How would he do this?
Stepping back he called for security and cursed himself as he reached for his phaser. Empty!
He sighed and he looked around. A thought struck him. There was a back way into the lounge. A small room, a closet really accessible by a J tube just a level above. He hurried to get his plan into motion. He hated flying by the seat of his pants but here we was.
Inside the room Seleya stood frozen. She stared at the man in a calm and cool manner that only a Vulcan can pull off. "I do not understand."
She watched the man roll his eyes. "Of course you don't. My job was to deliver you to a very high ranking Admiral. He's now unavailable and it will be only a matter of time before they come looking for me. You, dear doctor, are my ticket off this ship."
Logic worked in her mind. He wanted her to help him off the ship and that would mean the crew would be safe. She started thinking of ways to get them both off the ship and then escape.
"Let's go...shuttle." He said motioning with the phaser. "I trust you won't be trouble doctor Seleya?"
"Indeed." She placed her medical kit on the table and something caught her eye. She looked towards the vent and a pair of incredible eyes stared through the grate. Eyes she would know anywhere.
Her heard started beating faster. She didn't want him hurt. "Higgins may I ask a question before we go?"
Higgins looked frustrated. "What?!"
Just as he spoke the back door hissed open and Essex, ever at the ready, burst through. His momentum carried him towards Higgins and he took the man down producing an unexpected yelp and a phaser shot that went wild and disintegrated the captain's favourite chair.
He grimaced. Fig would have his head.
Just as he grappled with the man the doors opened and two red shirted security officers ran in. Pulling Essex and Higgins apart they made quick work of removing him.
Winded Essex had to admit that he wasn't as young as he used to be.
Sighing he lay back on the ground and was rewarded with Seleya's face looking down at him. "Michael are you..."
It had been the first time she'd used his name. With a burst of energy he didn't know he had he sat up and pulled Seleya to him. Their lips met and after a short gasp he felt the passion of her own kiss stirring. He pulled back a little resting his forehead against hers. "I love you." He said. "I've always loved you. Marry me." It all rushed out.
"Yes." Was the only answer she could give, the only one her heart would let her give. And just like that, after years of set backs the stars alighted for one brief moment to stand behind love, a love that would last and inspire.
Admiral Essex and Commander Seleya, a truly enchanting tale.
