Security Incident: Escalation

Posted on Wed Feb 5th, 2020 @ 7:33pm by Lieutenant Commander Seleya & Lieutenant Commander Michael Essex & Commander K'Niras Sh'howul & Lieutenant Kylian Linwood

Mission: S01E05 ConQstador
Location: Sickbay

ON:

The sickbay was dark. It was one of those rare occasions where there were no patients, nobody there. Seleya had decided to take the night shift. She and Linwood would meet in thirty minutes to go over some promising Lab results. Through the use of the Andorian's frozen blood, that had been obtained during the last mission, she was able to create a serum that could do be a medical revolution. She entered the darkened sickbay and turned on the lights.

A sound from her office drew her attention. If Linwood was here why did he not turn on the lights. She headed towards the office.

When the lights came on Ensign Marcus Fuller had ducked quickly under a console, knocking one of the medical instruments off the table and onto the floor. He wasn't exactly sure how he was going to get out of this one without anyone seeing him. He looked out at the instrument he'd dropped on the floor. He wasn't sure what it was for, but it looked sort of like a weapon. Maybe, if he couldn't hide, he might be able to knock her out and get away before she could see him. He'd never really done anything like this, but the admiral had been adamant that he gather all the information he could.

Seleya walked towards her office. "Hello? Linwood?" She drew nearer to the office. Calling of full lights she entered her office. She heard a shuffle and headed towards the console that it came from.

Marcus had never committed violence against anyone, aside from training. He knew how, he'd just never attacked anyone, especially not a fellow crew member and definitely not someone that outranked him, but he didn't really see that he had a choice. The admiral that he was reporting to had made it very clear that if Marcus was caught doing what he was doing then his career in Starfleet was over. When Seleya was almost on top of him he finally gathered himself and lept from his hiding place. He struck her once in the head, hard enough to put her out but not hard enough to kill her and bolted from the room.

It all happened so quickly. She'd been walking one minute and then a blurry shadow popped out and then all went dark as her body crumpled to the floor. As she fell her head bounced on the corner of the desk creating a small gash on her forehead.

It wasn't long before Kylian showed up for his shift. He was a little surprised to find all the lights on in the medical bay, but no one was apparently there. Maybe Seleya had gone for breakfast, but that seemed so out of routine for the Vulcan that Linwood was almost immedately concerned. He called out to her several times with no reply before he entered the office and found her unconscious on the floor in a small pool of blood.

Rushing to her side, and grabbing several instruments along the way, including a tricorder and a dermal regenerator, he rolled her over carefully and checked her vitals. First by hand and then with the tricorder. She was breathing and her heart rate was normal, the abrasion on her forehead might be the cause of her unconscious state and he started to carefully tend to her wound. "Seleya? Can you hear me? Come on back around..." he coaxed while he worked. She might have passed out and hit her head. He didn't want to just jump to conclusions.

Seleya could hear someone calling her name. She followed the voice out of the dark tunnel into the blinding light. Her eyes blinked a few times and stared unfocused at Linwood. As they began to focus she recognized him. She tried to move but found it painful. She touched her head. "Any fractures," she said, her voice weak but steady.

"No fractures, but definitely a concussion," Linwood replied. "Just stay still for a little bit longer. Do you know where you are? Do you remember what happened?" He was still using the regenerator on her.

She held back a sigh and stuck to the truth. "I had arrived early and had heard sounds from the office. When I attempted to check... a figure jumped out from behind the desk panel." She shook her head, that proving to be a bad idea as the room spun. Suppressing a groan she continued. "I did not see much, just a blur and then I fell and then I must have passed out."

Kylian was mostly done with her injury, but he was still concerned. "A figure? What? Someone was in here?" His eyes widened in surprise. "Do we need to call security?" He offered her a hand up. "If you stand, I want you to take it slow and sit down in a chair immedately. I really think you might have a concussion."

Seleya gave a nod. She pondered his security remark. She stood up and things seemed good. She went slow and then the room twisted in a disgusting way. She fell into the chair and held her head. It felt if her very brain was spinning inside her skull and that did not make her stomach happy.

Just was she fell into the chair Essex walked in. He held two coffee cups and a smile that faded when he saw Seleya. He slammed the coffee cup on the table its contents sloshing over the side. "What happened?" He dropped to his knees by the chair, his heart hammering.

"I found her unconscious on the floor in here, with a concussion," Kylian answered, not waiting for Seleya to fill anything in. "She said there was someone in here. We were just to the "should I call security" part when you arrived." He was still looking at his tricorder, but now, instead of being focused on Seleya he was looking at the console she said she had seen someone near.

"You damn well better! And get the XO down here." Before Seleya could say anything he grabbed her and hoisted her into his arms walking over to the bio bed and plopping her down.

"Yes, Sir..." Kylian didn't need to be told twice. He turned on his heel and went to the nearest console that hadn't potentially been touched by an intruder, which ended him in the other room to call security. After placing the call he returned to the main office.

When Linwood came back in Seleya looked over at him. "I can see the evolutionary link now."

Kylian blinked. "Evolutionary link, Doctor?" he asked, unsure of what she was referring to. "I called security. They will be here momentarily."

"The Admiral.. I mean commander here just showed a perfect example of Neanderthal behaviour. I'm surprised I wasn't slung over a shoulder."

Essex huffed and headed out to ensure the XO was here too.

Kylian burst into laughter. "I really love you, Doctor. Not in a romantic sort of way, but more like hero worship." He stepped back over to her. "Most human men are definitely still showing traits of their ancestry."

Seleya's lip twitched ever so slightly. "It was just an observation." She managed to sit up. "I think that I am better now."

"Take it easy," Kylian said, concerned, his brow furrowed. "I mean, I'm pretty sure I healed most of the damage, but still..."

She gave a nod. "Perhaps. Are you alright?" She hadn't asked if he'd been there... or had she? The concussion was working its magic to her mind.

Kylian snorted. "I'm totally fine and was not here... I didn't even see anyone in the hallway when I came in." He looked thoughtful. "Trying to remember if there was anyone on the turbolift..."

K'Niras arrived with the security team, who came into sickbay ready for action, phasers pulled. When there was no one immedately present they spread out. When the Caitian spotted Essex he relaxed a little. "Is the intruder still here, Commander?" he asked.

"No. I echo my sentiment, you better find him before I do. If I find him first I will air lock him." He started to pace and he raked his hand through his hair. "She could have been killed!" His face began to redden as he thought of seeing Seleya on the ground.

The security team started to scan areas of sickbay for anything that the attacker might have left behind. K'Niras took a deep breath. "Well, thankfully she wasn't killed, but we have to find this man. Now. Did she have any description of him at all? Or her... I guess it could be a her." The Caitian's tail swished quickly back and forth behind him.

He shook his head. "She's in there. It's better if you hear it from her." Besides he couldn't talk. The anger that she could have been hurt worse was eating at him. He just wanted to pace out his frustration.

K'Niras shook his head and turned to the office. Humans. Such an emotional species. Not that Caitians weren't, it was just displayed in a much different fashion, although he had to admit that he understood where the admiral was coming from. If someone had attacked his girl, he'd be upset too. He stepped into the office. "How are we doing in here?" His gaze shifted from the doctor to Linwood and back again.

Seleya gave a nod. "I am back to functioning well. A minor disruption in work timeline but I shall recover the time."

"Did you get a look at the person that hit you?" K'Niras asked. "I'm glad you're going to be alright. Do you think this might be related to the... other thing?"

Kylian tipped his head to one side and furrowed his eyebrows, looking at K'Niras. "What other thing?" he asked.

Seleya watched between the two. She sighed. "Perhaps. I did not get a look. I heard someone in the office and thought it was a member of the staff. When I came around he or she moved rather quickly." She sighed. "Actually, there has been a development in the other thing as well."

The Caitian's tail bounced. "A development?" K'Niras leveled a look at Kylian. "Get lost, Linwood... the doctor and I need to talk."

Kylian didn't wait to be ordered twice, and that definitely sounded like an order. He nodded and walked briskly from the room. With security crawling all over the room he couldn't stand in his usual place and eavesdrop, instead he had to go about his duties. He would have to question Seleya later.

K'Niras waited until the intern was gone and then pulled a chair up next to Seleya and sat down. "Are you sure you're alright? Tell me about this development."

"I am alright." She looked up and sighed. "Commander you better come in here. Eavesdropping is something Kylian does well, you do not."

Sheepishly Essex came in. "I just..."

Seleya lifted her eyebrow in the typical Vulcan fashion. "As I was saying, the development is that I am now sure, one hundred percent, someone was in my quarters. It was last night, I was going to report it this morning. I had almost caught him. I was sure it was a him. I managed to get a look at the shadowy figure."

K'Niras snorted as Essex entered the room. He didn't mind the Essex hearing anything though. He was already involved and knew as much as the Caitian did. "I've been looking into the backgrounds of people on the ship and I've been monitoring communications... heavily. If this person is getting messages out to someone then they're using other signals and piggybacking on them. Anything outgoing from this ship that I'm not catching would have to be secure, encrypted and piggybacked."

She gave a nod. "I appreciate it, Sir, but I will be fine."

Essex sighed. "Until this is solved, you are getting a bodyguard."

Seleya looked over at K'Niras. "Commander, is this necessary?"

"Damn it! It is! Your safety is on the line." Essex paced.

"Commander the security staff here cannot take on another task."

Essex turned. "Great, cause I'm the guard."

K'Niras shook his head and chuckled softly. "Stand down, Essex. Not that I have any say over what you do, but the good doctor is right. Our security can't take on another task, but we are going to step up the security on both the medical bay and the doctor's personal quarters. I am going to be adding cameras to the hallways and in the public areas of the medical bay. We'll catch whoever this is on camera. To be honest, I'd rather you not follow her around. It's going to make our guy nervous and I want to catch his face, but, like I said, I don't have control over what Essex decides to do."

Essex made a sound between a growl and hiss.

Seleya raised an eyebrow. "I believe that the Commander acknowledges that you are right... despite the fact that he does not like it."

Essex paced and then walked out. He needed to cool down.

Seleya shrugged. "I apologize. I do not know what has made him so cross. He was like this on the Apollo as well."

K'Niras snorted in humor. "Oh, was he?" The Caitian wasn't at all surprised that Essex had behaved like this previously, especially when in proximity of Seleya. "We'll get to the bottom of this and put a stop to it, I promise you."

"There is also something else I wished to speak with you about. A health concern regarding Commander Essex."
