Recrewing, Repairing, and Resupplying

Posted on Mon May 21st, 2018 @ 2:19am by Fleet Admiral Donatella Figueroa & Lieutenant Aeryn Vinia & Lieutenant Kylian Linwood

Mission: S01E03 That Which Cannot Be Unseen
Location: Beta Quadrant | Deep Space Station K-7

After the successful completion of their rather controversial operation in the Klingon Empire's Boreth system, the USS Musashi was due for some cosmetic repairs, resupplying, and recrewing due to standard rotations, transfers, and vacancies. Personnel matters were a rather frequent occurrence, but a necessary nuisance nonetheless. Nurse Aeryn Vinia had been placed in charge of the USS Musashi's Medical Department as the Acting Chief Medical Officer for the interim period while Doctor Ezekiel Hill was let off at Deep Space K-7 to board a Federation courier vessel that would rush him and several medical specialist to one of the remote Federation colonies experiencing a rather disturbing sickness that was at the borderline of being declared a an pandemic.

Captain Figueroa was in the last several hours of her command of the USS Musashi. She wanted to ensure that the starship was repaired, the crew rested, and her starship properly resupplied before it departed K-7 without her. The change of command was only for a while. She would be going on maternity leave, leaving Commander Christopher Samuels in command. He had earned her respect in the past few months and Fig knew that if there was anyone she could depend to keep the starship space worthy and the crew safe, it was her First Officer. Though for the time being, she was taking Lieutenant K'Niras Sh'howul with her on a somewhat personal mission.

The Captain had headed for the docking port of her starship to personally greet some of the new crew arrivals. One man in particular was due to arrive within the half hour. A Medical Student placed aboard the USS Musashi for his medical residency. It was certainly going to be an interesting dynamic ahead for the man as he was assigned to the Musashi for Doctor Hill to oversee his studies. However, with Hill on special assignment, it was going to be Lieutenant Aeryn Vinia who would oversee the man's medical training. She had been a career psychiatric nurse, but everything in her studies was complete and cleared when she came aboard the USS Musashi to act as Head Nurse as a Nurse Practitioner. She had the autonomy of any MD physician and now she had been given a great deal more authority with Doctor Hill away on special assignment.

Fig has requested her to meet her at the docking port, but something had come up, delaying her a bit. As Fig patiently awaited the Nurse, new crew had started to arrive. The fresh pressed crisp white medical uniform stood out in a small group. The man had striking features, a handsome devil for sure, but Fig was not about to admit that. "Lieutenant Linwood," she said calling out to the man as the group started to fan out.

Surprised to hear his name, Kylian looked up from his PaDD and saw the uniform, rank and insignia of his new Captain.
He broke into a grin and then saluted her. She was considerably more beautiful than he expected her to be, not that he hadn't seen pictures, but those didn't always do people justice. "Captain Figueroa, pleasant surprise," he said cheerfully.

The Captain looked down at her stomach which was evidently a bit plump to be polite, even in the looser olive green wrap variant she wore as a maternity uniform. "Well, you know Lieutenant, I am full of surprises apparently," she said making a joke a her own expense. "I see your mother and or instructors have taught you well. Clean cut, good posture, and I can almost smell the sterility of a Sickbay on your uniform," she teased.

"You can relax a bit, Lieutenant," she said pleasantly. I've had a decent night's sleep and still riding off the adrenaline of a victory of the Klingons. So, I'm not going to bite anytime soon," the Captain added pleasantly.

"Oh! Well, that's good. I'd hate to be bitten on my first day. Human bites are terribly nasty as well." Kylian made a gesture with his fingers around his face and wrinkled his nose. "Very prone to infection." He laughed. "I just didn't expect the red carpet. At least not for an intern." He picked up his bag and slung it over one shoulder.

The Captain smirked and crossed her arms. "Well, I would like to say we roll out the red carpet for all new members of the crew, but that would be a little white lie. I came to welcome you aboard and also to apologize slightly. Normally, I would have given the welcoming detail to my Second Officer and the Chief Medical Officer, but Lieutenant Sh'howul is a little tied up preparing for a mission," explained Fig. "As for Doctor Hill... ah well, that's a bit more complicated. There's a medical crisis on one of the outer Federation worlds. He's been called away for the time being to assist. We're without a ship's physician in the MD sense. However, Nurse Vinia... she's on her way here as we speak. She's our Head Nurse, but currently Acting Chief Medical Officer. She will be overseeing your residency until Doctor Hill returns."

Kylian's eyes widened a bit. "Wow... out of the frying pan and into the fire, huh?" He chuckled. "Forgive me, Captain. I just spent 6 weeks aboard a station that had state of the art medical equipment and no staff. I've been it the entire time I've been here. I think that their staff might be the same place your good Doctor is. There's a ship docked at the station now with a fine Doctor who will take over at the station until their staff arrive." He readjusted the bag on his shoulder, looking at Fig cheerfully. "I look forward to meeting your Nurse. I'm more than a little excited to be finally getting underway." He grinned widely. "I'm also glad that you're not here for an assortment of other reasons and did you say Sh'howul? That's a mouthful of a name..."

"Yes, Sh'owul is a Caitian, our Chief Communications Off-" she began to reply, but the arrival of Nurse Vinia had come with good timing.

Aeryn's sharp ears had just caught the edge of the conversation after her name had been spoken. "Nurse Vinia is here, good morning Captain." Offering a friendly smile to the captain, as she approached them from the south corridor. Once she was close enough, she extended her hand to the male who was standing next to her. "Aeryn Vinia, It's nice to meet you Doctor Linwood."

Kylian took her hand and shook it firmly. "Pleasure to meet you Nurse Vinia. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. The Captain informs me that you will be in charge of my education while the Doctor is away." He smiled warmly and tucked his hands behind his back politely.

"And it means I'll increase my knowledge as well. I'm happy to do so." Nodding her head, making a blue strand of hair fall into her eyes. Brushing it back absently she smiled at them both.

Kylian grinned broadly. "Well, I'm super happy to be here. I've waited for an assignment for almost a year. I was just telling the Captain here that just spent some time aboard the K-7 as the entire medical staff." He chuckled. "Of course even that was better than staying on Earth. Where are you from?" he directed at Aeryn, his bright blue eyes roaming over her for a moment.

"Catulla," she answered quietly her cheeks darkening just slightly as he checked her out. She was used to the once over as most people did so when they noticed her hair. "Have you heard of it?"

"Um... sixth planet in the Theta Pictoris system, right?" He was an alien biology specialist afterall. "Joined the Federation in 2185... also known as Cendo-Prae. Am I saying that right? Cendo?" He chuckled a little.

Captain Figueroa was pretty impressed. "Sounds like you know your way around Federation star charts, Lieutenant Linwood," she said pleasantly. "Beautiful worlds from what I've heard, though I have never personally been. Two moons, isn't that right?" inquired Captain Figueroa. "Sounds like a good place for a vacation if I can ever manage the time."

Kylian actually blushed and chuckled. "Thank you, Captain. I'm actually rather obsessed. I think sometimes it might be a sickness. I'm very, very fascinated with other species. Actually, since we're having this conversation. I'm sure you have a perfectly fine communication officer, but if you ever need anything translated... I'm your man." He grinned innocently.

"It's a nice enough place, if you're not me." Aeryn smiled a little and then realized what he'd said and beamed. "How's your Klingon?"

"Very good. Read and write. I'm not so sure about some of my pronunciations. I have a hard time with the Klingon guttural stop. I can do it with German, but Klingon..." He took a deep breath and let it out slowly and smiled. "I can name some of the House symbols as well. Or at least tell you what the stuff on the insignia might mean. Their baldrics are really fascinating."

"I am sure they are." Aeryn's smile only grew with his assertation that he could both read and write Klingon. "I'm going to need your help with a project, with your permission of course Captain?" Her blue eyebrows raised and she nodded encouragingly at the Captain, who was rapidly becoming her friend.

Kylian also turned his gaze to the Captain, hoping that she would say yes. Any sort of anything having to do with languages was an awesome thing to him and he wanted to be involved.

Fig nodded. "By all means, Aeryn. If it is medically related, you have full reign to do as you see fit. Sickbay and the Medical Department is yours to run. If you do need any assistance linguistically, feel free to ask the Chief Communications Officer or Ensign Marquez. The Ensign seems to be a budding linguist as well."

Kylian grinned. "I am your student to do with as you wish. The language is also important to my studies. If you're going to treat alien species and say you're a specialist, then I feel that you should at least be interested in speaking their language." Then he shrugged. "But like I said... I'm sort of obsessive."

"That is an interesting take on it. I'd love to discuss that with you more in great detail later," Aeryn answered with a smile curving her full lips. "With your permission of course I'd like to take the Doctor and get him settled?" Blue eyes rested pointedly on the chronometer embedded in the wall and then flickered briefly to the captain's belly. She knew her schedule just as well as Fig did, and it was very nearly time for her next round of supplements.

Kylian nodded, still grinning. "I'm sure you'll get tired of hearing me on that subject," he chuckled and readjusted his bags. "I'm ready to get started when you are, Nurse."

"He's all yours, Nurse," said Fig with a nod. "Pleasure meeting you and having you aboard," the Captain added to Kylian.

The Lieutenant nodded and gave her a polite little bow. "Thank you Captain. The pleasure is all mine." He grinned.

"Pleasure was mine" replied the Captain as she departed on her own way. Too much to do and too little time to do it.
