Scottish Meeting
Posted on Mon Oct 30th, 2017 @ 4:25am by Fleet Admiral Donatella Figueroa & Lieutenant Junior Grade Fiona McGowan
Mission:
S01E02 D-8 With the Devil
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Fiona was on one of the newest ships in the fleet finally - the USS Musashi - and she was certainly a beauty. Now was not the time to admire this feat of engineering though! Now was the time to report to the Captain of this fine vessel! This was what had brought her to the Captain's office. Pressing the door chime, she waited.
Captain Figueroa was working on reading up on the latest reports on the Klingon situation. Things were getting a little tense out towards the borders and in regions that remained contested by the Klingon Empire and other third parties. Though so far things seemed to be stuck in the state of a lukewarm cold war. The Zaran pissing match was behind her for the most part, but the scars and other wounds from Klingon conflicts past lingered. Some more evident as others. When the chime rang, the Captain nearly jumped...the silence had been broken.
"One minute" she replied quickly. She put down the tablet she was reading from and proceeded over towards the door to greet whomever was stopping by. When the doors parted ways with hushed whooshing, the Captain found herself face to face with someone she did not recognize. With the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, Fig was fairly certain if this woman had been a member of her crew, she would have at least remembered her face or something. "Hello Lieutenant, is there something I may help you with?" she asked rather casually.
Entering the office, Fiona snapped to attention and offered a crisp salute before offering a tablet with her transfer orders on them. "Lieutenant JG Fiona McGowan reportin', Keptin. I've bin assigned as yer chief engineer startin' the-day."
Oh thank the stars thought Captain Figueroa. She looked at the woman and smiled ever so briefly, but after the past few days she had, smiling was not on her mind. "You have. I idea how good it is to have you aboard, we've been without a dedicated and competent Chief Engineer for weeks. My former XO was briefly Chief Engineer, but he was more trouble than he was worth" confessed Fig.
Fiona smiled brightly at the talk of anything engineering, even if it was a reference to her being competent. "Aam canty tae be haur, keptin. Ah hud heard yoo've hud puckle issues lately sae jist lit me ken whit ye need an' i'll gie tae wark straecht
I may not know exactly what you said, but I'm sure it was flattering thought the Captain. "Our Chief Communications Officer has been putting in some time down in Engineering covering until we received an actual replacement. You may want to check in with them. Also, we had some minor skirmishes with the Klingons lately. May be a few things that still need repaired" briefed Fig.
"Aye, keptin. I'll heed doon thaur an' hae everythin' shiny an' runnin' loch new afair ye ken it." Fiona was just itching to get her hands on these new engines and wasn't sure if she could bear the excitement long enough to talk to the Comms Chief first, but she'd certainly try. "Is thaur anythin' yoo'd loch me tae focus oan first?"
Fig scoffed and sighed. "I have had this command for a few years, the starship and I have come to an understanding. I push her beyond her limits and she holds together until we make it home safely. However, she has been through a lot and has a tendency to be a little sluggish at processing commands. Also, she burns through crystals like a chain smoker" reported the Captain. "If you have any work around a for those...just do what you can" added Fig.
Fiona grinned wider and took the Captain's words as a challenge. "Keptin, within a week yoo'll be convinced Ah can wark miracles, yoo'll ken it. Th' auld quine will be hummin' alang sae weel, she'll be loch a brain new spyug. Aw Ah need is th' reit tool fur th' reit job."
"Whatever you need, you may have. Whatever is not aboard, ask and I will have it here expressed" replied Captain Figueroa. "We will undoubtedly be running into Klingons again. I want every possible edge I can get over them" she added.
"Aye, keptin, i'll lit ye ken by th' end ay th' day everythin' i'll need tae hae th' entire ship as guid as new." Fiona replied with a grin, obviously eager to get to work.
The Captain nodded agreeingly. "Excellent" she said in a quick reply to the woman. "Lieutenant, I will go ahead and let you get down to Engineering and introduce yourself to the vital organs of my starship. Let me know if we need any transplants" added Fig. "Last I saw a full Engineering report we were getting low on crystals" stated Fig.
Fiona nodded and started planning that little conundrum out. "Ah hae puckle tricks up these sleeves, keptin. yoo'll ne'er need tae fash yerse abit 'at again, if Ah hae a say in 'at matter. If yoo'll ho ye, keptin, Ah shoods see tae engineerin' an' gie everythin' tae purrin' perfectly."
"Sounds great, Lieutenant" replied the Captain with a nod. "Dismissed" she said to her new Chief Engineer. It is going to take me some time, but I think I could get used to her thought Fig.
