Mission: S01E01 - At the Brink of Night
Location: Deck 6 | Briefing Room

Perhaps leaving a relatively bright eyed and passionately fired up young Irishman Ensign in charge of watching the Bridge while the Captain was away was not the wisest of command decisions, but it was rather by the book in that the Ensign was a Bridge Officer and given the present circumstance, next in the chain of command with practically everyone off the Bridge. Fig was just hoping the Klingons took a bit of a rest and did not return to strike again until this meeting had reached its conclusion.

She took the Chief Medical Officer and the starship's Chief Navigator with her into the Briefing room, allowing then to sit wherever the hell they desired. She took her usual seat and waited for the two gentlemen to be seated. "Well, you both were present on the Bridge to hear the verbal berating of some choice words from the Klingon Commander" she said not wasting time with formalities.

Donatella let out a sigh of hot air. She had been stewing ever since the message came in calling her out. "Doctor, forgive me for my ignorance of the full details of your personnel file, but do you have any experience with Behavioral Psychology or anything that can give us an advantage here?"

Zeke scratched his chin for a moment, he knew he was an amateur psychoanalyst at best, "His behavior seems to be fairly typical of Klingons, although it is strange that he called you out personally."

Fig shot a look over towards the Navigator. "From what we understand and know about Klingons, they seem to pride themselves on war and the expansion of their 'glorious' Empire" she said with some blatant sarcasm in the adjective of glorious. "As I recall, before joining the Federations, your people the Andorians were known for being pretty militant themselves. "Do you have any insight on what we may expect from such a battle driven species? I need to avoid full armed conflict at any cost, but I also need to be ready if a war breaks out right here and right now, Lieutenant" said Fig sternly.

"I had been thinking about that." Shras replied. "While we Andorians were militant, when backed against a wall we do get a rush of signals enhancing our reasoning. Perhaps the Kingons have the same." Shras took a breath. "Not knowing too much about their "honor" system I can only guess further."

Donatella nodded and made a mental note of that information. "That is alright, Lieutenant. Any little bit guess, speculation, deductive reasoning is more than nothing. We've fought a war with these people and still know very little of them" she added.

The Captain looked at the two men. "This specific Klingon is named Ke'gak" she said identifying the Klingon commander of the D7 battlecruiser. "As you can conclude, he and I have a bit of a history. Undoubtedly he has a personal vendetta against me. So, the Musashi has a target on our back" she stated.

"You could use this vendetta to your advantage." Zeke stood and stretched, "Goading him into striking at the wrong time for him could put us at an advantage." Zeke enjoyed his Machiavellian thought, but shook the enjoyment off quickly, "But I'm not an expert in Klingon psychology, he might handle vendetta with grace."

Shras nodded as he listened.

She took the Doctor's advice to heart. He actually may have found an achilles heel and that was in Fig herself. "Doctor, you might actually be onto something" she replied with a nod. "There's no love lost between us. We've met in a few battles during the war and after. He once got the better of the Musashi and captured myself and a few of my crew" she admitted. "He held us captive, but we were later released. I suspect the Klingon leadership knew better than to hold Federation hostages. They could not afford escalating into a war again" she added.

"I agree. Have him make the first move." Shras said

Zeke scanned the captain with his eyes. From her eyes, and her tone, he couldn't tell if there was eagerness in her voice, anger, or a combination thereof. He felt a slight tinge of distress shiver up his spine.

"Captain," Zeke added, "Be mindful. Don't get ensnared in some sort of feud with the Klingon commander. We're here to protect the Zaranites."

Fig bit her bottom lip. That damn Klingon has me so fired up I cannot think straight the Captain thought silently, but she knew that the two men in the room could tell that the Klingon was getting to her. "You're right Doctor" she said nodding. "We are here for a reason and that is to protect the Zaranites and ensure their smooth membership into the Federation."

"Maybe Ke"Gak will be so preoccupied with his personal beef so much that he won't be too vigilant on our mission." Shras offered.

The Captain smirked. "You know that is exactly what I am hoping for. He's angry, he's emotional, and he has this hot blooded vendetta against me. Let's use it. Let's exploit it for all its worth and let's give that damn Klingon hell!" she said slamming her fist on the table.

She then looked at the Andorian. "Are my Antennae showing yet? I've been told I'd make a fine Andorian before" she said somewhat teasingly.

Shras laughed. "A little." he laughed. "Glad to have you." he smiled.

"Thanks" replied Fig. She let out a sigh and shook her head. "Thank you both for giving me some advice and perspectives to consider. I appreciate having options" she added. "You are both dismissed. Shras, you have the Bridge. Go take it back from EJ before the Ensign gets too comfortable in my seat" she said with a smirk.
