Mission: S01E01 - At the Brink of Night
Location: Deck 4 | Captain's Quarters

Captain Dontatella Figueroa sat silently in her quarters, seated in a chair that was slightly pulled out and facing a small computer console. She had a PaDD in her hand as well. Her First Officer's intelligence report about Rigelian pirates awaiting the Musashi was spot on accurate. Fig knew with the confessed past of her XO, that his history as a pirate was going to be potentially damaging. He had of course repented in the eyes of the Federation and Starfleet had been his fresh new start. However, as fresh new starts went, a history of piracy did indeed cast a very long shadow which as recently as this mission was jeopardizing a positive outcome for the USS Musashi and personally for Captain Figueroa.

Commander Miller had unloaded this information upon Fig, owning it all and taking full responsibility for what was likely going to be some sort of ambush attack from the Rigelian pirates or at the very least have to deal with the Rigelians and the Klingons both at the Zaran system. Vic wanted her to say nothing. He wanted her to keep her lips shut and let him handle it...whatever the hell that meant. This was her starship and it was her crew that would be put in danger. If she said nothing at all her crew would be bewildered by the presence of Rigelian pirate vessels waiting for them.

Even with the USS Constitution and USS Enterprise, the trio would have their hands full as it was with the Klingons stalking around. It shots were fired and the trio had to take on the pirates in addition to the Klingons, this mission would quite possibly fail. The Zaran system would be lost, the Federation would lose a potential member world, and the Zaranite sensor technology would fall into the hands of the Klingon Empire. Fig could not let that happen.

The fact of the matter was her career as decorated as it was due to her participation in the Four Years War and several of the high profile battles including the Battle of Axanar, her career was skating by on thin ice. If she held this information between herself and Vic, blood would be on her hands...again. Oh stars forgive if she did so and Starfleet ever found out her holding back that information. She would need one hell of a good Judge Advocate to defend her in a full on court martial which would most certainly be the case. She barely knew Commander Miller. There was no chance in hell that she was going to throw away her career for a man she barely knew more than a couple days and a few hours change. The crazy schemes Kelvar Garth had put her through and asked her to amend her official reports was one thing, but this was entirely different.

Fig had made her decisions and now they were coming around and repercussions were accumulating. She had reported to Starfleet about what happened. The Vulcans had moved in on the surrounding systems, cutting off the Rigelian pirates before they could reach the Zaran system. The Vulcans had managed to defuse the situation for now, but it came at a price. Donatella held up the PaDD and sighed heavily.

Victor Miller – Commander, Federation Starfleet her Executive Officer, the ship's Chief Engineer had outstanding warrants from non-Federation worlds from his pirating days and those days were now catching up to him. Captain Figueroa had broken the news to him only an hour ago in private and followed protocol by the book. She had him placed under arrest. However, she opted to sentence him to confinement to quarters rather than tossing him into a holding cell in the Brig. When the Musashi's mission was over, he would be turned over to authorities and hopefully the Federation and Starfleet would get his name cleared and he could salvage his career. However, Fig could not wait for that to happen. The Musashi needed to carry on and she would need to find an immediate replacement.
