Sickbays, shoulders and space sickness

Mission:
S01E05 ConQstador
Location: Sickbay
Pausing outside the doors to sickbay Amanda sighed heavily. She knew she'd have to come here, she knew the examination wouldn't go well and she had a good feeling at some point the doctor would question why she had returned to duty when she clearly wasn't 100% but here she was anyway. Checking the data chip that contained her most recent medical report was in the small pocket she'd added to her uniform to store tools she stepped through the doors.
Seleya had just finished taking stock of the supplies that had arrived and she and Linwood had worked almost all night to organize the supplies. She looked up as the door hissed to see a young woman standing there. She put down what she'd been reading and walked over to the young woman. "Welcome Lieutenant. How may I assist you"
"I'm Lieutenant Turell, just come aboard I'm looking for the Cmo Dr Seleya." Amanda replied.
"I am Doctor Seleya. Please come in and have a seat on the bio bed. Welcome to the Musashi."
"Thank you Doctor." Amanda sat herself down on the nearest bio bed. "It's nice to be out in space on a ship again."
"How long were you off ship?" She asked as he prepared the instruments she would need. Once she was ready she'd ask for the medical records tape.
"Six months," Amanda replied. "It was supposed to be longer but they decided I was fit enough to return." She knew that comment was likely to make the vulcans eyebrow raise.
"I see." She would have to study the records more closely. "Just lay back and relax the scans will only take a few moments."
"I have everything the biobed would pick up here on a data chip. I've had more scans and tests done on me in the last six months than I'd have in six years." Amanda said but lay back regardless.
"I prefer to do my own scans." She turned on the bio read scanner and watched as the blue field moved over Amanda. "Fascinating," she said.
"Fascinating how they managed to keep my arm entirely my own flesh and blood?" Amanda asked, the date dome to her arm and shoulder was extensive.
"No that you were cleared for duty. " She sighed. "I see nerves that are damaged and muscles in atrophy. If I am to clear you for duty I will require you to attend physiotherapy sessions."
"I took physiotherapy sessions in the last few weeks." Amanda told her, while the medical team had set her loose early they didn't leave her without the means to get better. "I've a few exercises that I need to do daily."
"You will also attend here. I wish to track your progress." She closed the scan down. "I will now test your range of motion. Please sit up." She offered her gloved had to assist Amanda.
Amanda nodded then sat up on the biobed not wanting Seleya's help with something so simple, she wasnt looking forward to this part.
Seleya offered her a cylindrical shaped object. "On the count of three sqeeze this device as hard as you can, then hold for ten seconds and then transfer to your other arm and repeat."
Amanda took the object in her left hand.
She gave a nod. "Three, two, one. Squeeze."
Amanda squeezed as instructed, the grip was strong and firm. After ten seconds she let go and took it in her right hand
"Good," Seleya said.
Amanda squeezed again, this time her grip was visibly weaker and her entire arm twitched with discomfort, ten seconds felt like it was never going to end.
"Alright." Seleya made some notes. "We have some work to do but I believe we can work on this together, if you are willing."
"With respect doctor, I've done nothing but work on getting my arm better since the surgery, I spent six months unable to do anything that I'm trained for or wanted to do, live with the fact I probably will never feel the same again and wallow in the feelings of having my fiance die a few weeks before we were going to get married. All I want to do is to get back to some real work." She doubted much of this would emotional sounding talk would have any effect on Seleya.
She gave a nod. "You will get back to work. I just want you to tell me if you are in pain. No sudden moves and no difficult arm positions. I want to see you here once a month for a check up and once a week for physio. Doctor Linwood will assist with that."
"You're not going to stop me being on active duty?" Amanda asked, it was the primary thing on her mind.
"Not unless I am forced to. You can do your duties, all be it, adapted and as long as you are attending physio and resting enough I do not see a reason." She studied the woman. "Do you wish not be cleared for duty?"
"No, the last thing I want is to be unable to start work," Amanda replied. "I'm glad you agree with the starbase medical staff that I'm fit enough for duty." Though she knew whether she actually was or not would only be found out when she started.
"You must be aware of your physical limitation. Do not push yourself further then comfortable and at the first sign that something is off you must report here." She paused. "I wish you to remember something should you doubt coming here if something does not feel right."
Amanda nodded, she'd heard the same multiple times from the doctors at the medical base. "Believe me doctor I'm well aware of my limitations, I had to teach myself how to use my left arm just as good as my right was because I couldn't use this arm for months."
"You have done an amazing job." She motioned for the woman to hop down. "I think all is well. One final question."
"What is it?" Amanda asked as she dropped down off the bio bed.
"Are you afraid of hypos?" She held up a hypo spray, a long cylindrical object with a cross at the top that made it look like an elongated T. She pulled a small vial with neon pink liquid and attached it to the top. " Each member is required to update their space sickness shot."
"No," Amanda replied. "I've had that many used on me recently I barely feel it these days."
"Very well. Right shoulder please."
Amanda turned a little to let Seleya get to her arm.
Seleya positioned the hypo on Amanda's right shoulder and twisted the bottle enough to allow the contents to hiss through. "There. That will carry you for the year."
"Never really suffered from space sickness," Amanda told Seleya after she'd finished, "but then I've not been in space for six months so it could creep up on me."
"This will help." She gave a nod. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant Turell."
"Thank you doctor, do you need anything else from me?" Amanda asked.
"That is all for now. I will send you your physio schedule." She gave a nod and headed to her office to log the medical.
"Good day Doctor." Turning Amanda headed out the door and headed for a turbolift to take a better look at her quarters.
