Doctor to Doctor to Doctor

Posted on Mon Mar 11th, 2019 @ 7:00pm by Lieutenant Commander Seleya & Lieutenant Kylian Linwood

Mission: S01E04 The Outpost Has Eyes
Location: Sickbay, Deck Five

Doctor Calix and Kylian had been in the USS Musashi's Sickbay after the briefing that Calix and Nurse Vinia had attended. Calix had just finished briefing the few medical officers he had to work with while Nurse Vinia was off elsewhere giving her own little debriefing to the medical technicians and couple of nurses that served under her. Sickbay was now relatively empty except for Calix and Kylian who were still getting to know one another.

"This is my first mission with Starfleet," said Calix to the other man. But before there conversation could go further, they were interrupted.

Seleya entered the sickbay having said goodbye to the first officer and having thanked him for taking her to sickbay. She looked around at the space, her mind already forming images in her mind of what it should be. Her purple and pink crates arrived and were stacked properly. She looked around at what seemed to be a deserted sickbay. She looked around. "Hello?"

"Be right with you," called out Calix as he headed out to the front of Sickbay to find a red haired woman with pointed ears. I've seen Vulcans, but never one like this, thought Calix. "May we help you?" he asked simply enough.

"I am Lieutenant Commander Seleya the new Chief Medical Officer the Musashi." She stepped forward careful to keep her arms clasped behind her back. "And you are... Lieutenant Calix and Linwood. Correct?" She had studied the crew profiles but was fuzzy as to who was who by face.

"Kylian Linwood," the Human said with a grin and stepped forward, offering his hand for a moment until he realized he was offering it to a Vulcan. "Oh... uh... sorry..." He stepped back, withdrawing his hand and bowed politely. "Although, I am a little confused." He looked at Calix and then back at Seleya. "I thought he was the Chief Medical Officer?" He thumbed at Calix.

"I was... unexpected I gather," she said appreciating the correction of Linwood. There was a small chirp that came from somewhere inside her hair. She sighed, "Elijah you may come out. The large cat is gone." Ever so slowly a small grey squirrel emerged from her red hair to perch on her shoulder. "I will be taking over as CMO, however, Doctor Calix, I would appreciate you being my Assistant Medical Officer. I understand from the captain you might be willing to step aside somewhat anxiously."

"Here's to the unexpected," replied Dr. Calix with a smirk. "Doctor... Seleya? Was it? I don't know what, if anything, you've read about me, but I am hardly qualified to be you Assistant Chief Medical Officer. I should have never been made Chief Medical Officer to begin with, but that damn Captain did this to me. She made me part of her crew and assigned me as the CMO. You can have the job, please take it."

"I see." She studied the two men. She then lifted the squirrel off her shoulder and placed him on a nearby shelf where the small animal promptly sat down and observed the three. "Gentlemen, I will be reorganizing the sickbay slightly. I require your assistance." She looked at Calix. "Doctor, I do not understand all that has gone on, but I would very much like you part of my team."

He nodded. "I don't have anywhere else to be" he said in response.

Kylian had put one hand up under his nose in a fist, in an attempt to hide his amusement with the whole thing. He was also totally distracted by the squirrel. He stepped toward the small animal in a slow, sideways motion, trying not to scare him. "Hi Elijah..." he whispered to the squirrel. He was definitely whispering loud enough for people to hear. "I'm Kylian... did you have a good trip? By the way, you're really cute."

Elijah, being the ham he was, scurried down the wall and towards Kylian. He perched in front of the man and chirped about happily.

Seleya resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "He is quite friendly, Doctor Linwood. He is somewhat of a service animal." As if to prove her point, Elijah bumped his head against Linwood's boot.

"Oh wow! You're super adorable!" Kylian knelt and held a hand out to the squirrel. "I'm sorry if I'm distracting him from his service," he said with a big grin on his face. "I've got about a million questions about him, but I'll save those until we're all sorted out here. I'm more than happy to help with whatever, though."

You distract everyone from their service, thought Calix. "Doctor, if I may... I don't feel I'm experienced enough to be your Assistant Chief Medical Officer. I was on my way to my residency when the Captain intercepted me. I cannot possibly see how I'd be an acceptable Assistant Chief Medical Officer to you."

Kylian rolled his eyes. "Good Lord Calix... you're already out here. Think of the experience you're going to gain. Stop the whining and take the position. I'm in the same boat as you." He grinned up at Calix and Seleya.

"What I was going to say before I was so RUDELY interrupted," said Dr. Calix looking at Kylian. "Was that you should be Assistant Chief Medical Officer, not me."

Seleya studied the two men silently. "Well so as not to cause trouble and given that you were both in your residency I will make you both Assistant CMOs. That is an order." She looked over at Linwood, liking the doctor's easy going attitude. "You are not distracting Elijah. He is there to help the patients feel at ease. I find that there is a reduced sense of worry and fear when there is an animal to distract those that are not well. Of course, you may ask any questions you wish but right now I have a sickbay to put in order. I would like to request you both open a mobile clinic in the empty space next door." As if on cue the door opened and three operations crewmen entered with their tools. "I will require lots of items moved and shuffled and I will be alphabetizing and colour coding the medication room. If you kindly tend to the patients if they come in I will work to reorder this sickbay within the next two hours as much as possible and then we shall meet where you both will bring me up to speed on crew records and what is currently occurring." She spoke with the calm and cool detachment of the Vulcan. She could sense their questions and feelings, but used her Vulcan mind techniques to block them out for the moment.

That sounds fair, thought Egan Calix as he watched the operations crewmen enter and the Chief Medical Officer was giving out orders left and right. She clearly knew how to run a Sickbay and more importantly how to run her Sickbay. She was the head chef in this kitchen and Egan only needed a split second to realize that. He looked over at Kylian "I think we've been put into our places and given our roles," he said.

Seleya continued to marshal the crewmen. She'd have this place in shape in no time. It gave her something to do, something to keep her mind off of the pain that had found its home in her heart. It let her feel less broken.

Kylian stood from where he had been kneeling and stared at the Vulcan doctor, then he shifted his gaze to Egan for a moment and then back to Seleya. Slowly, he lifted one hand and rubbed the back of his head. "Well then, I guess we'll set up a mobile clinic... next door? Right?" He didn't even know what to think about the ACMO. He wasn't about to say anything and ruin it though. He only stood there for a moment longer before he started to gather the kits they would need. "We'll have to roll a biobed over there... but it shouldn't be that hard. There's a console we can link it in to."

Seleya gave a nod. "Then do so with haste." She turned back to the crewmen. She would get this sickbay in order if it killed her.
