Personal History | ::Childhood:: Kinaav was born on the USS Wasp-A, where his father was the Chief Engineer and his mother was a Science Officer. He was the second born of four children. He lived on the Wasp until his parents decided, after his mother became pregnant with their fourth, that it was time to settle down back on Tellar Prime to raise their family. Kinaav was 5. When resettled on Tellar Prime, the children attended a school, his father started working in the shipyards, and his mother at a research lab. ::Starfleet Academy:: At the time he reached 18, he decided to go into Starfleet. At first, he didn’t know what field he wanted to go into, so he started with just the general education courses. Upon taking the basic medical class that is required by the Academy, he found that he really liked it. So his advisors adjusted his schedule to match that career path. He graduated the Academy at the rank of Ensign. Upon graduation, he went to Starfleet Medical Academy, to work towards his M.D. He spent his first 3 years at the Academy doing research and clinicals, then on his final year, he got placed on starbase 32 for his residency. He graduated as a Lieutenant JG and an M.D. ::Career:: Upon graduating the academy, Kinaav was assigned to the USS Nightingale-A, a Constitution class starship. He was assigned to one of their sickbays as a Medical Officer and surgeon. It was on that ship, that he realized what it meant to be a doctor. They responded to a call from a colony that had an outbreak of a virus, and nothing they could do could cure it. The Nightingale, being a medical relief ship, was the first to respond. Kinaav connected with a young girl while on the planet. He was working with the CMO and the ACMO in EV suits to try and cure the virus. While he was there, she died. He blamed himself because he kept telling her that he would save her. It was the next day that they found the cure. He carries the guilt for her death to this day. A year after the incident he applied for a transfer to the USS Iwo Jima. Once aboard the Iwo Jima, Kinaav accepted the position of Assistant Chief Medical Officer, and the promotion to Lieutenant. The Iwo Jima was an Akira class starship, their assignment was patrolling the border of Breen space. He served their for five years. During that time, they had many encounters with Breen that were trying to smuggle things across the border. There was a lot to do, everything from minor burns to fatal wounds from skirmishes with the Klingons. Everytime Kinaav entered sickbay or the OR, he felt the guilt of the girl’s death. Never actually dealing with it with a counselor. And every death under his hands, even though he tried his best to keep them alive, he held deep within him. In 2294 Kinaav heard that the USS Musashi was in need of a Chief Medical Officer. He talked to his current Chief and she encouraged him to apply for the transfer. He had served long enough as not the Chief of a sickbay. So he put in his transfer request and waited to hear a reply. |
